INTERNERSHIP POSITION IN THE TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT

THE ORGANISATION

The Malawi Accountants Board (MAB) is the regulatory body for the accountancy profession in Malawi established by the Public Accountant and Auditors Act No.5 of 2013, Cap 53.06 of the Laws of Malawi.  It is mandated to provide direct oversight over professional accountancy bodies and auditors to, among others; Promote high quality reporting of financial and non-financial information by entities; Promote the highest professional standards among auditors and accountants; Improve the integrity, competence and transparency professional activities in accounting and auditing; Adopt and ensure compliance with and the enforcement of applicable local and international accounting and auditing standards; Protect the financial interest of the general public and investors.

 

MAB would like to recruit an Intern in the Technical Department on a Six Months Contract.

 

DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

Reporting to the Chief Technical Services Officer, the Intern shall be part of the team that implements the regulation and compliance function of MAB.  As part of the Regulation and Compliance Team, the duties and responsibilities of the Intern shall include the following:

  • Vetting and scrutinizing application for membership documents from ICAM for new applicants and if there are any queries refer them back to ICAM.
  • Scrutinizing application documents from accountancy training institutions for accreditation purposes.
  • Scrutinizing application documents from audit firms for registration purposes.
  • Scrutinizing application documents from professional accountancy organisations for accreditation purposes.
  • Duplicates application documents and submit them to relevant officers in readiness for Committee meetings.
  • Compiles list of approved members, audit firms, professional bodies and accountancy training institution for certificate sign writing and publications.
  • Provides reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep the Chief Technical Services Officer informed of the operation and progress of regulatory efforts;
  • Reporting violations or potential violations to duly authorized enforcement agencies as appropriate and/or required;
  • Communicates with applicants regarding their registration and dispatch of certificates.
  • Responds to queries regarding registration/accreditation in collaboration with the Chief Technical Services Officer.
  • Filing and Performs any other duties assigned to them from time to time.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Malawi School Certificate of Education
  • Diploma in Accounting with 3 years experience or Bachelors Degree in related field with 2 years experience
  • ICT knowledge and competencies desirable.
